Senior Indirect Tax Specialist
Job Description
About the Opportunity Core focus on Canadian indirect tax (sales/commodity tax) with 5+ years’ experience.
Key responsibilities
Sales tax compliance and preparation of returns (GST/HST/QST, etc.) – templated/standardized processes owned by tax, not F&A.
Luxury tax (auto/vehicle industry) – primarily documentation/paperwork and coordination with dealers for purchase exemptions; minimal calculations.
Excise tax – currently limited to air conditioner tax (prior fuel tax now removed).
Property tax compliance and budgeting – paying property tax bills, running the property tax budget; standardized, not highly complex.
GL account reconciliations for QST/GST/HST receivables and some property tax accruals.
Pension-related work
Reviewing actuarial filings and tying to pension plan financials/working papers.
Accounting for pension liability on TCI corporate balance sheet (plan accounting itself is external).
