Police Officer Academy Trainee

Primary Purpose

This is an entry level, non-sworn position in the Police Department. Upon completion of a P.O.S.T. certified background check, incumbents are assigned to or are currently attending a P.O.S.T. Basic Academy and must satisfactorily pass all of the requirements that lead to the possession of the P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate in addition to passing all phases of the background process. An assignment to this classification is temporary and the incumbent is considered “at-will”. Appointment to a sworn Police Officer position is contingent upon successful completion of the academy followed by a final review by the Police Chief or his designee.
